Controlling your ads

We think that mobile advertising can be of great benefit to consumers, but we also understand that some people want more information about the kind of data that we have access to and how we use it. The information on this page explains more about how to opt out of our services, there is also a link to the how, what and why of our data, which gives further information and all the key facts.

Opting out

If you are a customer of O2 you may receive ads on your mobile chosen for you based on information available, such as your age, gender and interests. Delivered through Weve, we want to make sure that we don’t send adverts and messages to people who don’t want to see them. So we’ve created several mechanisms for helping you to opt out of the marketing campaigns which Weve enables.

- Messaging opt out- replying STOP to any message sent via Weve will remove you from the messaging service of O2.

- In-ad opt-out- Weve has worked closely with the IAB and European Digital Advertising Alliance (EDAA) to provide a simple and easy to use opt-out for mobile display via a mechanism called AdChoices. Weve takes care to ensure that every mobile display ad it serves, both on the mobile web and in mobile apps, using data from O2 carries the distinctive AdChoices icon. Simply swiping the icon, will bring up further instructions on the handset which allows the user to stop receiving these ads via Weve with one touch.

- Display opt out online – If you want to opt-out of receiving display advertising without seeing a Weve enabled ad you simply need to follow these instructions
1. Switch WiFi off on your mobile phone, 2. Open the web browser on your mobile phone, 3. Copy and paste, or type this link: http://optout.weve.com. 4. Follow the instructions contained in the message.

Now that you're opted out

Once opted out, you are opted out permanently from targeted advertising from O2 via Weve.
